Welcome Back To Reprise!
A letter from Marcia Seligson, Founder and Producing Artistic Director
REPRISE has been reborn!
We are now REPRISE 2.0 and we are incredibly excited, as we know you will be!
The original Reprise Broadway’s Best was known from California to New York for both the excellence of our productions and our fierce dedication to this essential American art form, rapidly becoming one of the leading musical theatre companies in America.
Since those days, so many of us have been emailed privately or approached in public by former audience members invariably asking the same question: “Can you bring Reprise back? There’s nothing like it in LA. We miss it!”
Well, my colleagues and I missed it too. And so, heartened by this outpouring of excitement and encouragement, a group of theatre professionals — directors, musical directors, choreographers, and designers who were responsible in large part for the original organization — met several months ago, determined to combine their talents once again to create a brand new entity. Bigger and better than ever. As a result, we’re delighted to inform you that our new American Musical Theatre company, REPRISE 2.0, will return not only to Los Angeles, but to the original, passionate vision that made Reprise so special.
We will begin in June of this year, producing three musicals each season at our former home, the wonderful 550 seat Freud Theatre on the UCLA campus, with a two-week run for each show. What will again be unique and magical about REPRISE 2.0 is our dedication to presenting the highest quality shows from the classic Broadway repertoire, those shows that are rarely revived but richly deserving of attention because of their glorious, timeless scores.
REPRISE 2.0 will be faithful to our original concept, combining simple sets and costumes with exciting direction, amazing choreography, the band on stage, and stellar performances to let the material shine, allowing audiences to experience musicals they’ve either never seen before…or not seen in many years.
As before, we will be working with some of the top musical theatre talent in America, both gifted newcomers and established stars such as Christine Baranski, Kelsey Grammar, Maureen McGovern, Jean Smart, Tony Danza, Jane Krakowski, Donna McKechnie, Christopher Sieber, Davis Gaines, Steven Weber, Lucie Arnaz, Christine Ebersole, Orson Bean, Judith Light. The list goes on and on.
For our initial season, we’ve chosen three dazzling musicals you may never have seen but I feel certain you will relish: the hilarious and touching SWEET CHARITY, Henry Mancini’s classic VICTOR/VICTORIA, and Broadway’s legendary GRAND HOTEL, complete descriptions of which can be found elsewhere on our website.
We are also incredibly fortunate to have SWEET CHARITY directed and choreographed by one of the leading lights on Broadway, three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall.
In addition to our beloved former subscribers and single ticket buyers, our challenge now is to create a new audience, young and diverse, from all over our vast city. Through a unique ticket-pricing system, special events, and readings of new works, we intend to do just that.
…PLEASE JOIN US! If you’re one of our past happy subscribers, we’ve missed you, too. And if you’re a newcomer to the unique, musical theatre experience that is REPRISE 2.0, WELCOME!
